Hypnosis is a natural state everyone enters into regularly.
For example, if you have ever lost yourself in a book or movie or been so caught up in a special project that you haven’t noticed time go by, you have slipped into the state of hypnosis. You also spontaneously enter the hypnotic state just before and just after sleep, and when you are daydreaming.
During a hypnosis session, you will not be asleep but in a state of pleasant relaxation with a more narrowed focus and increased concentration as your unconscious mind becomes more open to suggestion. It is because our behaviours are dictated by the programming of our unconscious mind, that the ideas, concepts or lifestyle changes that are suggested during hypnosis are more readily accepted and integrated into your daily reality, but only if they agree with your own values. You will not accept anything that goes against your deepest beliefs and morals or divulge anything against your will. You will always come out of hypnosis when you wish to.
While you will experience hypnosis in your own unique way, the common factor that determines the success of the procedure is your own motivation to make the changes you seek. If your motivation for change is high, hypnosis has been found to be very helpful in the following situations:
- Building confidence and self esteem
- Alleviating fears, phobias and panic attacks
- Letting go of anger or grief
- Lifting depression
- Managing stress
- Becoming smoke-free
- Developing and maintaining strong motivation
- Managing weight, diet and other life-style issues
- Gaining and maintaining a state of balance and calm
- Effecting pain relief
- Learning to relax
- Overcoming unhelpful or limiting beliefs and behaviours
- Creating a new outlook, helpful behaviours and habits
The number of sessions required depends on the individuals personal circumstances. It is possible to make permanent change in a single session in some instances. Some conditions/changes are better managed by a series of three to six sessions spread over several weeks or months. It is of immense value to apply the self-help techniques that are taught during each session.
